Matthew joined the Foundation in 2016 as an associate with the Organizational Effectiveness team. In this role, he partners on efforts to promote grantee capacity and sustainability, and also engages in philanthropy field building and special projects. Matthew brings a range of experience in nonprofits, government, and politics.

Most recently, he worked at The Institute for College Access & Success, where he conducted research and advocacy on college affordability issues in California and nationally. He previously held roles at the U.S. Department of Education and on the 2008 Barack Obama campaign. Matthew holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from UC Berkeley and a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
