Matthew La Rocque, Program Officer

Matthew joined the Foundation in 2016 and serves as a program officer with the Effectiveness team. In this role, he partners on efforts to build grantee capacity, generates knowledge on philanthropic best practice, and provides support to the Foundation’s president on special project grantmaking and communications initiatives.

Matthew brings a range of experience in nonprofits, government, and politics. Previously, he worked at The Institute for College Access & Success, where he conducted research and advocacy on college affordability issues in California and nationally. He also held roles at the U.S. Department of Education and on the 2008 Barack Obama campaign. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
